National Women’s Enterprise Day, Ireland’s largest female enterprise event is a full day programme to promote, encourage and stimulate female entrepreneurship across Ireland. It is designed and led by women and is an annual high point in promoting entrepreneurship to women in Ireland. The Local Enterprise Office along with Enterprise Ireland provide a wide range of help, incentives, training, and development programmes to female entrepreneurs.
While help is available all year round, National Women’s Enterprise Day turns the spotlight on female entrepreneurship. It attracts widespread media attention. It opens the prospect of entrepreneurship to women who may not have considered it before. It highlights what support is available. It provides valuable networking opportunities and connections with industry experts. And it celebrates the achievements of women in enterprise.
It tackles the real-life subjects affecting women in business. While finance, marketing, innovation, and new product development are important, so too are family, well-being, and mental health and these all have their place in National Women’s Enterprise Day. The programme and the pace create to combine a heady mix of education, motivation, and inspiration.

Delighted to be participating on the Spanning Boundaries Programme, understanding what it takes to become a Spanning Boundaries Agent – https://www.spanning-boundaries.eu/
‘After the launch of the Europe 2020 strategy and the EU Growth Agenda, Europe has taken the path to create a more connected relationship between society, government, business and higher education institutions (HEIs) in order to increase employment, productivity and social cohesion. However, despite the strong policy support, cooperation among the key actors in Europe is still in the early stages of development, and their interaction remains insufficient. In that, the recent reports by EU Smart Specialisation Platform and JRC particularly emphasize the need for “boundary spanners” in the innovation ecosystem, individuals who have deep understanding of both business and academia. This capacity is increasingly deemed crucial among the university staff in the entrepreneurial discovery and smart specialisation processes of the HEIs, to support transfer and exchange of knowledge. The nature of the barriers that hinder regional engagement include “lack of ‘boundary spanning skills in the university” and “lack of leadership to drive change”.

Following a recent tendering and selection process, I have been accepted by LEO Fingal to join its Mentor Panel, starting in 2021. This will be my first time working with LEO Fingal in a mentoring capacity – having previously delivered training in marketing for the LEO. As with other mentor panels with whom I’m engaged: LEO Louth, LEO Meath, LEO Cavan, LEO Monaghan, I’ll be providing mentor support in Marketing, Sales, Business Strategy & Planning and with a sectoral specialism in Craft & Design, though not limited to this sector. To date I’ve been fortunate to work with over five hundred micro-enterprise and SMEs in a wide number of sectors over the years in Scotland and Northern Ireland and throughout Ireland. Here’s looking forward to 2021.
